Who We Are
Hydraulic Engineering Repair Services (HERS) was established in 1971 under the name Hydraulic and Air Services (Pty) Ltd and changed its name to Hydraulic Engineering Repair Services in 1996. HERS became a wholly owned division of Hudaco Trading (Pty) Ltd in December 2015.
HERS has a proud tradition of supplying a superior mix of quality and affordable products designed to meet specific customer requirements. By listening to the needs of customers and adapting to changing environments, we are able to constantly update and improve our service.
With nearly five decades of hydraulics and drivetrain experience, we have created a foundation of excellence from which to support our industry and customers.
Drivetrain Division
Our Drivetrain division was established just under 20 years ago and we are an official distributor to the Southern African market of two leading suppliers of drivetrain equipment – Kessler and Dana Spicer. We have been We are a Kessler Trained Service and Repair Centre for over a decade.
New products
We supply new axles, transmissions and torque converters to a wide range of markets for a variety of uses – agriculture, construction, cranes, material handling, mining, harbour equipment, marine applications, lift trucks, aircraft ground support, agriculture, telehandlers, and military vehicles.
Repairs
The Drivetrain Division is housed in a 6000 m² workshop with a dedicated stripping bay and ten work bays, most of which are serviced by overhead cranes.
A test bay with an axle test bench and another with two dynamometer test benches conduct tests on completed transmission repairs.
Over the past ten years the HERS drivetrain team has proven to be a leading repairer of other drivetrain components, such as Epiroc, Sandvic, AARD, GHH, to name a few.
With our modern drivetrain test bench, we are able to reduce operational costs for our customers by repairing and refurbishing equipment to OEM specifications.
Training
All HERS technicians have undergone official Kessler training on their full range of products.
Spares and Service Exchange Parts
We also carry a substantial quantity of spares and also offer a large range of service exchange stock to reduce production time losses through component failures on site.

Our Markets
We design, manufacture, refurbish and repair a range of hydraulic cylinders for customers in the mining, off-highway, construction, material handling, plant hire, steel, airport and harbour markets.
Design & Engineering
HERS uses the latest Autodesk Inventor CAD software to model hydraulic cylinders. This ensures that all components function and fit perfectly prior to any manufacture taking place.
Machining
All components are machined according to international ISO tolerance tables. Workshop personnel have individual sets of measuring equipment that are calibrated regularly to meet the requirements of our ISO 9001:2015 accreditation and audited by Bureau Veritas Certification.
Testing
All cylinders are tested on a hydraulic test bench.
Drifters, Rotary Actuators & Impact Hammers
To strengthen our hydraulic offering, we recently added a capability to service and repair drifters, rotary actuators and impact hammers as well.

Repairs
The Drivetrain Division is housed in a 1100 square metre factory with a dedicated stripping bay and six work bays serviced by overhead cranes.
A test bay with of an axle test bench and another with a dynamometer test bench conduct tests on completed transmissions repairs.
Over the past ten years the HERS drivetrain team has proven to be a leading repairer of all Clark, ZF and Kessler components.

We design and manufacture a range of hydraulic cylinders for customers in the mining, off-highway construction, material handling, plant hire, steel and airport and harbour markets.
Engineering
Cylinder designs and engineering work is modelled in a specialised computer simulation system known as “Inventor”. This ensures that all components function and fit perfectly prior to any machining taking place.

Workshop, Warehouse & Delivery
We have a large workshop and warehouse facilities at our premises in Germiston, Gauteng, South Africa. We despatch products from there to customers in all parts of Southern Africa.
Agencies
We represent two leading international companies through distribution agreements – Kessler and Dana.

HERS has been assessed and certified as meeting the requirements of ISO 9001:2015, ISO 14001:2015 and ISO 45001:2018. We strictly abide by these guidelines in running our daily operations and consulting assignments. View our certificates here.
